One Leap Ahead of Other Games: Xbox 360 Graphics

Xbox 360 is sure to be the most innovative product of nowadays gaming technology. With its striking qualities and design, it has become the long desired dose for all game addicts. What tends to be the most magnificent feature in Xbox 360 is physics. Technological advances in physics on Xbox 360 are significant. The effects are overpowering and the physics simulation is closer to reality than it has ever been with other Xbox versions before. What is more, many effects are allowed to happen simultaneously, which adds to the feeling of reality. Xbox 360 has another priority over other games: namely, the wireless. The wireless controller has the same speed as the wired one, and the wireless networking connects you with other players no matter where you are. The Xbox 360 memory Unit now inserts straight into the console itself, not into the controller. Moreover, the headset cable plugs directly into the controller. The controller on its side has innovative and modern design that allows for better grasp.

Here are some other specific aspects of Xbox 360.

1) The first one is A.I., which stands for Artificial Intelligence. A.I. allows non-player characters (NPCs) to behave in realistic ways. Your enemies are as evil as real, your friends are open hearted and love you so sincerely that you almost respond them. The sophisticated intelligence offers you an opportunity to command and play with large groups of NPCs.

2) Another specific feature of Xbox 360 is the High Definition. Unlike the older versions of Xbox, in which game developers could choose whether to support HD graphics, Xbox 360 requires that all games have HD options. The resolution settings are in the system Menu on the Xbox 360 dashboard. You can use either the Xbox 360 Component HD AV Cable, or the Xbox 360 vga HD AV Cable. The main thing to be put in here is that Xbox 360 offers dynamic high-definition support. If a game is designed with 720p in mind, but the capacity of your TV supports only 480p, Xbox 360 complies with the best resolution that your TV offers.

3) The third aspect is Graphics, which Xbox 360 is so famous with. All Xbox 360 games have been edified to support widescreen formatting and 720 progressive scan. The resolution options are interchangeable. All games are able to run at 480 i that is the resolution of an ordinary TV. It runs also on 480p, 720p and 1080 i so no matter what kind of resolution your technology device offers you, Xbox 360 can be fitted everywhere.

4) The GPU has a stylish appearance and highly functional design. To serve an example, the texture filtering and MSAA can be done at full rate with no performance penalties.

The other thing worth mentioning is that the full graphics potential of Xbox 360 can barely be grazed here. There are many amazing innovations that you will come to discover yourself. So far, Xbox 360 is the most advanced leap gaming technology has taken in the sphere of graphics. The other aspects of the Xbox 360 are also incredibly developed. Xbox 360 is the dream of every game connoisseur.

XP can be 'green' too

Microsoft Corp. may have tooted the public relations horn about Vista's power-saving features, said a Gartner Inc. analyst this week, but businesses would be smart to look at ways they can save electricity on their XP-powered PCs rather than worry about what the new OS offers.

Earlier this month, Microsoft announced the results of tests by U.K.-based PC Pro Labs that said Vista's improved power management features could reduce carbon emissions for a business with 200 PCs by 45 tons annually, and save the company $90.50 per PC per year in electricity costs.

"Before embarking on an expensive Vista upgrade to achieve green benefits, businesses should spend a much smaller amount on a broad-based education and training program to help staff understand why saving energy is important to the business," Gartner analyst Simon Mingay wrote in a research note this week.

"Our research shows that most users respond very positively when education and behavioral changes are part of a broad program to save energy and cut carbon dioxide emissions," Mingay said.

Mingay said businesses could reap about the same savings in electricity and carbon dioxide emissions with XP-based systems by educating users on that operating system's management features. He recommended that companies remind users to shut down PCs after hours, and show them how to remove screen savers and put monitors into stand-by mode after 10 minutes of inactivity.

"People and process changes are harder to make than technology changes, but go much deeper and will have impacts beyond any Windows upgrade," said Mingay. "Businesses shouldn't justify upgrading to Vista just because of improved power management."

How to prevent Windows Vista's green ribbon of death

Don't you just love it when something is so notorious for a particular shortcoming that a new term is invented to describe it? It happened with the Windows Blue Screen of Death. It happened with the Spinning Beach Ball of Death in Mac OS X. And it happened with the odd-number curse, referring to every other Star Trek film.

Now it has happened with Vista's own Green Ribbon of Death, shown below.

The green ribbon is basically a progress bar, a screen element Microsoft has sadly gone to great pains to excise from Windows Vista. But this particular progress bar is the harbinger of death for the active Windows Explorer window, which, unfortunately, is not uncommon in Vista.

Rapidshare To Be Forced to Shut Down Following Court Defeat?

Last week we reported on rumors that Rapidshare had, or was about to be, shut down, rumors that now look likely to resurface.

The company, one of the world’s largest ‘one-click’ file hosting services, has lost a copyright infringement case against German performing rights outfit, GEMA. Representing a claimed 60,000 members and more than 1 million rights owners worldwide, GEMA has taken an aggressive stance in pursuing legal action against Rapidshare, trying to force it to be accountable for the infringing actions of its users.

For its part, Rapidshare has always insisted that it cannot be held responsible for these actions, such as when users upload copyright works (in this case, music) to their servers for subsequent downloading by others.

On 23 January 2008, the district court in Düsseldorf (Landgericht) disagreed with this assertion after GEMA succeeded in convincing the court that Rapidshare should take responsibility for infringements carried out within its service.

GEMA are trying to imply that as a result of the decision, Rapidshare will be forced to take preventative action to stop GEMA works from even getting onto their servers, rather than a DMCA-style after-the-fact removal. GEMA says that if Rapidshare are forced to filter they will likely end up with a service that’s not worth operating, so they may decide to shut it down completely.

Beware of Fraud e-cards

The risk of getting a virus-laced Valentine's Day e-card is on the rise. The FBI has issued a warning about cards carrying the Storm Worm virus.

It may be due to the fact that Valentine's Day is a giant holiday for greeting cards, or it may be because people as a whole are getting very lazy and cheap, but the use of e-cards is on the rise. This provides a perfect opportunity to spread malware.

The Storm Worm is one of the big viruses that is eager to exploit your love, lust, and laziness to attack computers. It comes by way of an e-card that requires the recipient to download the card, which happens to be malware.

The Storm Worm is a botnet that turns your computer into a work horse for the controllers of said virus, allowing your machine's power and Internet connection to be utilized for spam, identity theft, denial of service attacks and more.

The general rule is do not open e-mail when you are not familiar with the sender. Then again, if you haven't been following this rule since the beginning of the Internet, then Valentine's Day greeting cards are the least of your concerns, and you should really get your PC checked out.

Happy Valentine Day..

Microsoft Dishes Up XP SP3 Release Candidate 2

Microsoft last week inched another step closer to releasing Windows XP service pack 3, offering up XP SP3 release candidate 2 to a cadre of private beta testers.

Released on Feb. 7, XP SP3 RC2 "catches the build up on previously released hotfixes and responds to critical feedback from previous betas," a Microsoft spokesperson said in an email to ChannelWeb.

Microsoft plans to release XP SP3 to manufacturing in the first half of 2008, although the exact timing "will always be based on customer feedback as a first priority," said the spokesperson.

Originally slated for release in 2006, XP SP3 has been pushed back on numerous occasions. The previous XP service pack, SP2, launched in August 2004.

XP SP3 will include all of the fixes Microsoft has released since launching XP in 2001, as well as support for Microsoft's Network Access Protection (NAP); 'keyless activation', which lets IT administrators install SP3 without entering product keys for each copy; and detection of so-called 'black hole' network routers that can slow network performance.

Last November, researchers from Devil Mountain Software published test results that showed XP SP3 not only offered a performance boost of up to 10 percent over XP SP2, but was also faster than the Vista RC and Vista SP1.

Microsoft responded by claiming that testing of pre-RTM service packs doesn't offer much in the way of useful, accurate data.

Vista SP1 Hits BitTorrent

In a development that should surprise only the pathologically naive, the Vista service pack 1 RTM has found its way onto Web download sites like BitTorrent and Pirate Bay. But it turns out that the Vista SP1 RTM has most likely been floating around the Web for a couple of weeks.

On Thursday, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that the Vista SP1 RTM is identical to the most recent build of Vista, Vista SP1 RC refresh 2, which Microsoft made available on January 24 to a group of 15,000 beta testers.

"In the final stages of a product, we like to get as much validation as possible before releasing. The release candidate ended up being of a high enough quality to be approved to release to manufacturing," the Microsoft spokesperson said in an email.

Earlier this week, Microsoft announced that Vista SP1 had reached RTM, but that partners and developers, including those with paid subscriptions to MSDN and TechNet, wouldn't be able to download it until mid-March because of device driver issues.

But apparently, users who can't wait to get their hands on the SP1 bits they crave have been heading online. As of Thursday afternoon, one popular BitTorrent site, Mininova, showed six files labeled as Vista SP1 RTM as available for download, ranging in size from 434 megabytes to 2.87 gigabytes. One file had 159 seeds and 665 leeches, but user comments indicated that it wasn't the actual Vista SP1.

Last month, several BitTorrent users were duped into downloading files that were billed as early builds of Windows 7, the successor to Vista which Microsoft plans to release sometime in late 2009.

Tom DeRosier, co-owner of CPU Guys, a Hanson, Mass., system builder, says Microsoft is well aware that the Vista SP1 RTM would be posted to the various Web file sharing sites.

"You need testers to see how the software runs in the real world. That's not a bad thing, and it may work in Microsoft's favor. It's almost as if they're letting the world do the R&D for them," DeRosier said.

Facebook, MySpace Users Susceptible To Cyber Attack

Social networking sites MySpace and Facebook once again face the very real possibility of being attacked by cybercriminals.

The U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team posted a bulletiin Monday warning users of critical vulnerabilities contained in the Aurigma Image Uploader, an ActiveX control that provides the ability to upload photographs, used by the popular social networking sites.

Specifically, the ActiveX control allows users to upload images using the Internet Explorer Web browser. The feature contains multiple stack buffer overflow vulnerabilities in several properties, which include Action, ExtractExif, and ExtractIptc, and testing has thus far shown that versions up to and including 5.0.30 could be susceptible. The vulnerabilities directly affect users running IE on a Windows platform, which automatically comes equipped with the ActiveX control.

If exploited, the errors contained in the Image Uploader could potentially allow a remote attacker to execute malicious code and completely take over a user's machine.

Attackers could lure Facebook or MySpace users running IE on their PCs with a Web page or HTML attachment infected with malicious code. A hacker could then turn the user's computer into a bot or shut down the system completely in a denial of service attack, security experts say.

"All it takes is for an attacker to create a malicious Web page which invokes this control," said Derek Manky, security research engineer at Fortinet. "Then they can do whatever they wish."

Debates have recently swirled around the ActiveX control, which has suffered from flaws in at least three pieces of Web software in recent days. Security researchers say that both social networking sites left themselves susceptible to exploitation by using the image uploader, which was created by a third party developer.

"ActiveX has always been notorious for serving as an exploit launchpad," said Manky.

So far, the publicly available exploit code remains as a proof of concept and is not yet loose in the wild. However, researchers say it will likely be just a matter of time before attackers engage in active exploitation, given the potential to affect MySpace and Facebook's significant user base.

"It's definitely something to keep on alert because the code has been published. Any time it's on Facebook and MySpace, you're going to get a lot of attention," said Manky. "That's what makes this a potentially dangerous attack vector. You have a really broad user base."

Both MySpace and Facebook have been contacted by security researchers and maintained in a joint statement that they are working to resolve the problem.

"MySpace and Facebook are firmly committed to keeping all users as safe and secure as possible. Immediately after identifying a solution Facebook, MySpace and Aurigma collaborated to resolve the issue and are working to individually alert users of any additional steps that need to be taken to ensure user security," a Facebook spokesperson said in a written statement.

The threat itself is not a new one, its severely is underscored by the fact that it can affect numerous MySpace and Facebook users.

While no patches for the vulnerabilities have yet been created, U.S. CERT recommended in its warning that users can work around the problem by disabling the ActiveX controls in Internet Explorer altogether.

"This happens regularly," said Manky. "In the end, it's the users' responsibility to be aware of this and install the updated patch for it."

Losing Weight the Healthy Way

Does panting on the treadmill give you nightmares? For many, the prospect of losing weight can be a scary thing. However, it's important to first understand that there are many ways to lose weight, without having to exhaust oneself totally.

Myths of weight loss

There are some popular misconceptions associated with weight loss. before you actually start an exercise regimen, it's important to remove all pre-conceived notions. We have listed out some of the most popular ones:

Myth 1: Ab exercises flatten the stomach

Fact: Ab exercises only tone and firm the lower layers of stomach muscle. If you happen to have layers of fat above, it won't make any difference. Therefore do aerobic exercises to shed the fat.

Myth 2: drinking water before exercise is harmful

Fact: Water is essential to replenish fluids lost during strenuous exercise. Therefore, drink water in equal amounts.

Myth 3: Eliminating fats helps shed weight faster

Fact: Fats in small amounts can help you feel fuller during the day. This avoids binging.

Myth 4: High protein, low carb diets burn fat faster

Fact: Ingesting too much protein can result in high fat and cholesterol levels in the body. Too many carbohydrates in the diet can result in the formation of Ketones which lead to kidney stones. The trick lies in a balanced diet.

Myth 5: One can lose weight no matter what one eats

Fact: Not watching what's eaten can lead to alarming weight increases

Myth 6: Skipping meals burns fat quickly

Fact: When you skip meals, your body goes into a conservation mode where its metabolic rate starts dipping, resulting in weight gains.

Myth 7: weight training doesn't shed weight

Fact: weight training can actually be a great way to lose weight in a short time span.

Myth 8: Consuming nuts and dairy products can be fattening

Fact: If taken in small doses, nuts can actually be good for health.

Myth 9: Counting calories isn't really necessary

Fact: It is absolutely necessary to keep track of everything you eat right from sugar to tea or even snacks.

Myth 10: Salads are a great health snack

Fact: Yes salads are great but not with the fatty dressing.

Cardio to help shed fat

It has been clinically proven that cardio exercise is your one and only ticket to effective and quick fat loss. Cardio exercises involve any form of exercise that raises heart rate to higher levels. Especially when it comes to fat loss goals, the higher the intensity, the greater the chances of your slimming down quicker!

Why high intensity cardio is so great

There are many reasons why cardio helps shed weight fast:

- High intensity cardio rapidly raises your metabolic rate

- This increased metabolic rate remains at the same rate even after exercise

- Increases lean muscle mass which contributes to increased resting metabolic levels

- Other benefits include:

- Greater lung strength

- Strengthens your heart

- Improves blood circulation.

Timing and its impact

The best time of the day for any cardio exercise is early in the morning, before you've had any breakfast. This is because in the morning hours, muscle and liver glycogen levels are really low. This means that with lower blood sugar levels, your chances at burning fat at this time is much more than later in the day.

top 5 cardio exercises to shed fat

If you think a 30 minute morning walk at moderate pace will help, then you're wrong. While it certainly will help you lose more calories over a period of time, if you're looking for fat loss you need something extra!

1.Jump rope: On an average if you jump rope for 15 minutes you burn 174 calories!

2.Swimming: The forward crawl stroke seems to burn fat the best and its also non-impact.

3.Sprinting: It will burn tons of calories, beats fat like none other and reduces stress and tension in the body.

4.Step aerobics: Burns a whopping 400 calories in a 30 minute time span

5.Cycling: It exhausts carbohydrate reserves in the body resulting in enhanced metabolic rates.
