5 Steps to Increase your Google Page Rank.

Google Page rank is based on back links. Back links are Links pointing to your website from another website. The more back links you have the higher your PR will be.

 

1. Join forums, forums are a great way to achieve links to your website. In most forums you are allowed to have a signature and in your signature you can put a link to your website. But another important note to look on is making sure the forum is somewhat related to your website. You will still get credit if it's not, but if it's related to your website than you will be accomplishing two tasks at once.

 

You will be advertising for your website (bringing in targeted traffic) You will also be building your websites presence.

 

Your websites presence is very important to your survival. The more people see, or hear about your website the more credibility you will have and this increases your chances of having these visitors come back and possibly become leads.

 

2. Submit to search engine directories. Search engine directories are a good way to get a free link to your website. They also increase your chances at being listed higher on popular search engines like Google, and overture.

 

Most search engine directories allow you to submit to their website for free. This will allow you to increase your web presence by being listed on another search engine, and it will also be a free link.

 

Remember the more links you have the higher your PR will be

 

3. Using ezine ads (or newsletters). Creating an ezine will probably be the most beneficial step you can take to increasing your web presence. When you create an ezine you will be able to keep visitors coming back to your website for more by using signatures and giving special deals.

 

Ezine's will also allow you to increase your back links. By creating an ezine you can submit your information about your ezine to an ezine directory. This directory will than link to your website(thus giving you a free link).

 

4. Creating and publishing articles. Articles are an easy source of generating new traffic. You can include your signature in your article. This will bring in more traffic from article submission directories.

 

Your signature usually consists of 4 to 8 lines. Usually the first line would be the title of the website that you are trying to advertise. The last line would be the link to the website and the lines in between these would be a sales pitch to draw your viewers into your website.

 

5. Links from related websites. Gaining links from related websites can be one of the most frustrating tasks you can attempt.

 

They are very easy to find, but can be somewhat difficult to obtain links from.

 

To find related websites, all you have to do is go to a search engine... say Google... and type in your subject. Maybe your website is based on ford mustangs.

 

You go to Google and type in ford mustangs, than you look around for pages that are somewhat related to your website. After you have done this (which should be very easy) you have to contact them in some way to get your link posted on their website. This can be the most difficult task because a lot of webmasters ignore e-mail's from people requesting links because they don't see the importance of it at the time. Some other reasons could be that they are rarely online, or they delete spam mail and sometimes delete their important emails in the process.

 

Important note: When looking for link partners don't just link with websites that have a page rank of 4 or higher. Link with anyone and everyone you get a chance to. If you link to someone that has a page rank of zero, this will not hurt your page rank. It will only increase it because you are getting a link back to your website. Google doesn't look at your back links page ranks to determine what yours is going to be. It simply looks at how many back links you have.

 

So if Google one day decided to link to a website that was just created and this website has a page rank of 0 and has a domain that goes something like this: mywebsite.geocities.com it's page rank wouldn't increase even though Google's page rank is 10, it's rank would still be zero because it would only have that one back link.

IE8 Review

I've been playing with IE8 beta 1, and I've got some thoughts ...

In terms of user visible HTML rendering features, I think IE 8 beta 1 is possibly the biggest release of IE since April 1997 when IE 4.0 alpha 1 was released. The history shows mostly bug fixes, and chrome changes since then. Maybe transparent PNG or Bidi text are bigger than Activities? It looks like that's going to be the feature that most people talk about, so I'm going to talk about some of the other stuff. There are 3 big things I'm interested in, and a few smaller features:

6 Connection Limit

I've been testing the new 6 connection limit, and really hoping that the other browsers follow suit and up their limits too. It works perfectly in my testing, Without any cookie or window.name hacks, DWR can do reverse ajax using comet to more than 2 browser windows:

DOM Storage

IE is way behind everyone else in implementing HTML5 features. So this is catching up to everyone else. It will be interesting to hear from the Dojo guys on this.

JavaScript Debugger

Firebug has been a stick that's been used to beat up IE for a while, and they've got an answer now. Unlike the other features, there isn't a screenshot in the release notes...

Firebug is still much better, in my opinion so far. But this is certainly a huge step forward compared to fighting with Script [Editor|Debugger] or Visual WebDev.

Acid 3

IE 8 does very badly on Acid 3 (17/100). However given that it's so new it's probably not fair to ding to too much. Plus it's nearly 2x better than IE7 as far as I can see:

• Firefox 2.0.0.12: 50%
• Opera 9.26: 46%
• Safari 3.0.4: 39%
• IE 8b1: 17%
• IE 7: 11%

Given that they are innovating, I'm prepared to give them time to get the number up.

URL Bar Goodness

I didn't see this in the release notes anywhere. On Firefox I've got an add-on called LocationBar 2 that does some nice widgetry with the URL Bar:

Cross-Domain XHR

The standards are still evolving on this one, but somewhat annoyingly IE8 seems to be going in a different direction from everyone else:

What is a Septic Tank System?

If you live in a city or town you probably take your local municipal sewer system for granted. If you are moving out of said city or town to a more rural setting chances are you will need to have a septic tank system. In simple terms this means that all your waste water and sewage waste is treated right on your property instead of flowing down to the local waste water treatment plant. While this may not sound very sanitary there is nothing to worry about because septic tanks have been in use for many years. In fact nearly 25% of all homes in the U.S. use septic tank systems.

A septic tank system is a very simple structure, but for all its simplicity it is very efficient at what it does. The tank itself can be anywhere from one thousand gallons or higher and is usually placed a good distance away from the house. The main sewer pipe from the house is attached to one end of the septic tank while another pipe exits the far side and is buried in what is called the leech field.

The liquid and solid waste enters the first chamber in septic tank through the pipe connected to your house. The solids are trapped in this first chamber and are broken down by anaerobic bacteria. This reduces the amount of solid waste in the septic system allowing the liquid wastes to flow into the second chamber which then flows out the end pipe and into the leech or septic field. In most cases this is all accomplished with the help of gravity as we all know that poop flow downhill. In some cases the septic tank cannot be placed downhill from the house so a pump will need to be used in order for the system to work properly.

The liquid waste that flows into the leech field is relatively benign and will create a nutrient rich growing area. Any plants growing over it will thrive and many septic fields can be located just by finding the patch of land that is greener then the surrounding area.

As efficient as a septic tank system is there will always be solid waste that is not fully decomposed. This will eventually fill up the septic tank and require that you contact a septic tank cleaning service to pump out your system. Worst case would be to have this done every year but most systems can go up to two years before needing to be cleaned out. Properly taken care of a septic tank system will do its job efficiently with few problems to worry about.

'The best sex lasts 7 to 13 minutes'

The best sexual intercourse lasts between seven and 13 minutes, according to a new survey by US experts.

According to the research, led by Dr Eric Corty, from the Behrend College in Erie, Pennsylvania, three-minute sex is 'adequate'.

The study is the first to review what the experts believe is the ideal length of time to have penetrative sex, with the random sample of Americans and Canadians labeling seven to 13 minutes most 'desirable'.

The study concluded that intercourse lasting between three and seven minutes was 'adequate', but anything less was 'too short' and beyond 13 minutes was 'too long'.

The extraordinary research is designed to help calm couples' unrealistic beliefs that healthy sex should last a long time.

Corty said that this was a situation "ripe for disappointment and dissatisfaction".

"In the fantasy model of male sexuality, men have large penises, rock-hard erections, and can sustain sexual activity all night long," News.com.au quoted Corty, as saying.

"It appears that many men and women hold this fantasy. The results from the present study, by providing a realistic not a fantasy model of sexuality, are useful both in treating people with sexual concerns and dysfunctions, and with wider circulation, in preventing the onset of sexual dysfunctions," he added.

Reacting to the research, Australian sex therapists commented that most Aussie men wanted sex to last considerably longer while most women were 'not bothered' if it was over with fast.

Dr Jane Howard, a Brisbane-based medical sex therapist, said there was a dearth of data on Australians' expectation of sex.

Anecdotal evidence suggested most Australian women would be happy with the therapists' "adequate" time of three to seven minutes, while men would not.

Symantec Exends NAC To Windows

Network Access Control will likely become more of a household name after Symantec recently announced its NAC solution, Network Access Protection, for Microsoft's Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Rich Langston, Symantec senior manager of product management, said that the goal of the Symantec NAC (SNAC) solution is to ensure the safety of networks by making sure all systems connect in order to meet a certain policy standard. By extending its NAC solution to include support for Microsoft, Symantec execs say that NAP will be able to provide a set of standard-based network access control solutions to a greater user base and a wider range of organizations.

"It represents another way to enforce these policies," said Langston. "For the channel, NAP really means that (companies) can take a more standard approach. It's more of a one size fits all technology."

Altogether, SNAC provides a single SHV (system health validator), a single policy console and single agent, along with more granular checking options, and the ability to create custom checks.

"Together, these allow Symantec Network Access Control to dramatically extend the deployability and manageability of Microsoft NAP in customer environments," said Patrick Wheeler, Symantec senior product manager for NAC in a statement.

NAP provides a framework of protocols endorsed by Microsoft that live on endpoints to communicate through policy servers, which allow the transmission of information about the current state of the system, alerting users and administrators regarding application use.

These protocols are used in policy enforcement—ensuring that the right people have access to the appropriate information in compliance with the company's security policies and remediation of noncompliance clients prior to network admission. Companies can use these protocols to build NAC solutions, Langston said.

Execs say that interoperability with NAP will make Symantec NAC deployments easier, which will allow customers to leverage Symantec' NAC's capabilities in a multivendor environment.

"We're already there with simple license key upgrades," said Langston. "There're far fewer moving parts for your deployment."

From a channel perspective, Langston said that the buyer can feel comfortable that the technologies are more compliant with their standard. "It really makes it a mainstream technology," he said.

"The really interesting thing about NAP is that it provides a set of protocols that have been endorsed by Microsoft," said Langston. "Microsoft is working with Symantec to refine them and make them more powerful in the future."
